Reading order
Eleven short sections, in the order you would actually ask the questions. If you only need one answer, the contact route at the end of the page reaches a person.
Rethink & Reuse publishes practical guides on zero waste living, sustainable lifestyle habits, and creative upcycling ideas. That work does not require an account, a profile, or a payment, and the site is built so you can read it without giving us anything. Where we do hold personal data, it is almost always because someone chose to write to us about a guide, a correction, or a topic they would like covered.
The rest of what we hold is technical: standard server logs and analytics that tell us which pages load, which guides get read, and where something has broken. This policy sets out the whole picture in plain terms, including how to ask us for a copy of anything we hold about you and how to have it removed.
Name and email address from the contact form, plus whatever you write in the message. Nothing is collected before you choose to send it.
IP address, browser type, and the pages you viewed, held in server logs and aggregate analytics. This is what keeps the guides loading fast.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for automated decision-making or profiling. There is no advertising network reading your behaviour on this site.
Data we hold
There are two ways information reaches us, and they are worth separating because the rules for each are different.
The first is information you give us directly. If you send a message through the contact form, we receive your name, your email address, and the content of your message. That might be a question about a plastic free food storage swap, a note that a link in an upcycling projects guide no longer works, or a suggestion for a topic we have not covered yet. We keep the message itself so we can reply properly and so the next reader does not hit the same broken link.
The second is limited technical data collected automatically. Standard server logs record your IP address, browser type, the pages you viewed, and roughly when you viewed them. Aggregate analytics tell us which guides are read and how far down the page people get. Neither is used to build a profile of you as an individual, and neither is combined with the contact details above.
We do not collect more than we need to run and improve the site. There is no account to create, no comment system storing your details, no newsletter list, and no payment data anywhere on Rethink & Reuse.
Why we hold it
Contact details are used to reply to your message and to follow up on topic suggestions or error reports. If you write about composting food scraps at home and we add the topic to the guide queue, we may email you once to say it is live. That is the full extent of it — no marketing list, no sequence of follow-ups, no sharing your address with anyone.
Technical data helps us understand which guides are useful and where the site needs fixing. If a page on reusable produce bags or beeswax wraps usage and care has a broken layout on a specific browser, the log tells us that a problem exists and roughly how many readers hit it. Analytics in aggregate shape which subjects we commission next, so the guide library keeps matching what people actually search for.
The paperwork behind it
United Kingdom data protection law requires us to name a lawful reason for holding each kind of information. These are ours.
We process these on the basis of your consent and our legitimate interest in responding to you. Consent is the part you give when you press send; you can withdraw it at any time by contacting us and asking us to close the conversation and delete the thread.
We rely on our legitimate interest in operating and improving the website. Without this data we cannot tell whether a guide on how to reduce household waste is loading properly, and we cannot fix the pages that are not.
Strictly necessary cookies keep the site working and do not require consent. Anything beyond that is set only with your agreement, which you can change at any time through your browser settings.
If a lawful request obliges us to disclose information, or if we need to protect the rights and safety of the site and its readers, we may do so. This is rare and would be limited to what is strictly required.
Where consent is the basis for holding anything, you can withdraw it at any time by contacting us. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of anything done before that point.
Storage and sharing
Two chapters of the same answer: the service providers who handle data on our behalf, and the timetable for deleting it.
We use service providers for hosting and analytics. They process data on our behalf under contract, which means they act on our instructions and cannot use it for their own purposes.
We do not share your information with third parties for their own marketing. We may disclose information where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of the site and its users.
Contact messages are kept for as long as needed to handle your query and any follow-up, then deleted on a periodic review. We do not keep an archive of old correspondence once the matter is closed.
Analytics data is kept in aggregated form and does not identify you personally after a short period. Server logs are retained for a limited time for security and troubleshooting, then dropped.
Cookies and requests
